There is no route for today.
We are in Weatherford OK
Today we spent the morning looking around the area near Weatherford. We went to the Cheyenne Museum in Clinton. We went to a little town called Cordell. Cordell is a real mid country small town. When we drove into town, we turned onto the main street and we were headed directly to the county seat of Washita county Oklahoma. The building takes a complete city block. We noticed that there were about 150 highschool age kids sitting on the steps going up the entrance. We were curious of course so we parked the car and walked over the area where there appeared to be the entire town lining the sidewalk around the court house. I asked one of the people who was parked in the street what was going on and he said it was homecoming.
I took lots of pictures of the small home town parade. It was a scene right out of a movie. If you want to see all the pictures, click on this link. The courthouse reminded me of the scene from back to the future. The rest of the picture came right out of American Graffiti. The parage started with the local police, then the highway patrol, then an ambulance then all of the kids from the local schools. From what looked like Kindergarten up to High School. The homecoming queen and her court came after that then a couple of floats with high school kids on them. We also saw a decorated car that let us know what the owner thought of the events in New York and Washington DC. Picture here.
We then spent the rest of the day with my cousin Elizabeth and her husband Morris Blaylock. We spent the entire time talking about our family and got caught up on births, marriages and deaths. We looked at all the family pictures and even were given a couple of my immediate family that we did not have. I will be making copies of a great family portrait of my entire family of four brothers and my parents. The picture was taken approximately 1953 as best as I can tell. It was a really great visit.
We actually did see Bison in Oklahoma.
