Today's route
Today we continued north to visit my cousin Althea Schaf. We have not seen her or her husband Joe for almost 20 years. They live on a small piece of land that has corn growing on it, three cows and many chickens. The eggs for breakfast were old, they were gathered the day before. Oh well, you can't have everything.
The trip north from Wichita was only about 277 miles but we stopped several times along the way so we did not get to my cousins house until about 5:30pm.
Our stops along the way were to visit more small town america and to look at any museums we could find. Unfortunately it was Sunday and most of the state was closed. The towns were deserted and the museums were closed. At least the local ones were. The state and federal museums were open at least for part of the day. We did manage to see one Indian museum called the Pawnee Museum and one other that was about the local area. The Pawnee museum was built over an original earth covered home that was part of a town the natives lived in during the spring and fall. The other two seasons they were either north of the village or south. When they went north they were hunting Bison. When they were south, they were gathering and growing crops.
