Today's long route

Today we started home.  We decided that we wanted to spend the last night in Reno Nevada if possible so we had to travel as far as we could on this day.  We traveled approximately 569 miles.  By far the longest day we have done on this trip.  We left Rapid City and headed south.  Once we left the Black Hills, the ride became nothing but grasslands and praire.  It became interesting during the drive through a portion of Custer national park.  I guess I was not paying attention to signs telling us that there were range animals, because at one point as I was coming over a rise and traveling approximately 70 miles an hour, there was a VERY large Bison on the right shoulder of the road.  I slammed on the brakes and stopped about 6 feet from him as he was walking very slow into the middle of the road.  When my heart slowed down, I also slowed down the car and we continued on the way.

After we arrived in Wyoming there was nothing but grasslands and praire to watch.  Although just before Rawlins we saw an enormous number of Prong Horn Antelope.

This is the same animal that grazes in New Mexico and we have seen them near our property in Roswell.

We arrived in Rock Springs totally exhausted.
