Day 4 Wednesday.
We arrived at the Brit Rail train station at King's Cross London at approximately 10am. We had the hotel call for a car to take us as we were transporting all our luggage and leaving London. We arrived around 11am and waited for the train that would leave at noon. The train we were taking is called "The route of the flying Scotsman". At about 11:45 we were able to board and settle into our seats.
The trip would be about 400 miles and would take about 4 and 1/2 hours with three stations in between. We passed through many stations leaving London and we finally were travelling through the countryside. The UK is beautiful. The grass is green, the villages are quaint and the scenery is great. We passed by many farms and pastures. Click here for a short video looking out the window of the train as we were going about 120 MPH.
We passed a couple of large cities, including York where we crossed a large river. We passed several electrical power plants along the way and saw trains from another line.
Finally we pulled into Edinburgh station. We waited on line for a taxi and went to the Cairn Hotel on Winsor St. We check in, cleaned up, and went out to dinner at a little Italian resturant. Susan ordered a Vodka Martini but they didn't know what it was. They asked if it was made with Martini Vermouth and Susan said yes. Her drink came and it was straight Martini Vermouth. Leave it to Susan to not send it back. I don't think she enjoyed it very much.
